Translations

The term "translating" means verbatim rendering of a text (source language) into another language (target language) in writing. Translating does NOT mean summarising a text in another language!

The job title "translator" is not protected by law, with the result, that individuals without a degree in translating may also use the job title "translator". It is, therefore, necessary to distinguish between individuals who "know a language", and trained translators. By means of his/her expert knowledge of a language and the subject in question, a trained translator will be able to strike the right note of a text, for patent, judgment and commercial correspondence differ by both, their content and the choice of words and language style.

At the same time you have to bear in mind that the user of a translation does not necessarily understand the language of the source document. Therefore, it is important for him/her to be able to comprehend where the individual parts of a text in the source document are located in the translation. Nearly identical layout will be of considerable assistance in this regard. Of course without additional expenses.

It goes without saying that I have all my translations proof-read without any additional charges to the client, in order to ensure a high quality.
